Port
of Bourgas
Situated in the centre of Bourgas Bay, The port of Bourgas is the first
large seaport for vessels entering the Black Sea. Its natural geographic
position, the well established communication network connecting the Port
with South Bulgaria and with the countries of Eastern and Central Europe,
make it an important junction between the old Continent and the Middle
East. The port of Bourgas inagurated in 1904, is guaranteed future prosperity.

|
Every year
the Port is visited by 1300 to 1500 vessels, plus oil tankers. The annual
average cargo output ranges between 6.5 and 7.5 million tons of general
and bulk cargo and from 12 up to 18 million tons of petroleum products.
Adequate depths are ensured for the fairway and the piers where most modern
ships can be handled. In response to world tendencies and requirements
the Port has equipped its seaship berths with the necessary specialized
facilities and universal vehicles for the efficient handling of ships,
trains and trucks. Liner shipping is also traditional for the Port of
Bourgas.
The following lines have been procured:
- Bourgas - Mediterranean Sea
- Bourgas - West Europe
- Bourgas - Far East
- Bourgas - to all Russian and Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Port has its own sea tugboats, ships for local and international pilotage,
manouvre ships, towboats and vessels for rescue operations. The Port has
up-to-date handling (loading and unloading) facilities and equipment.
A container depot, already in operation, is under intensive construction.
As part of the project a large refrigerator depot will be erected. A major
concern of the Port management and specialists is the current renovation
of the Port's equipment and technologies, as well as the maintenance of
the quays and aquatoria.
Apart from the expansion project currently in progress, every year the
Port management makes investments to the amount of USD 2.5-3.2 million
for the renovation and modernization of the technological equipment. The
up-to-date cargo handling facilities include hoisting and hauling devices
that fully correspond to the highest requirements in this field. Suppliers
of this type of equipment are selected among the leading firms from Bulgaria
and Europe. About 3 sea miles south of Bourgas is situated the oil-harbour.
The piers are owned by Port of Bourgas and the super-structure and the
facilities are operated by "Neftochim", Bourgas. The port can
handle ships up to 75,000 dead-weight tons at 3 sea berths and an annual
capacity of 18 million tons of crude oil. It ensures the delivery and
handling of raw materials for the Bulgarian oil-processing industry.
